Avoid Bad News to Boost Your Health!

You know, one of the great health wreckers of modern times is not necessarily bad food or lack of exercise, although they certainly have their share of the blame, but its more to do with the mood destroying news that we get served up on a daily basis in newspapers and on the TV and radio. Bad news makes us angry, frustrated and sometimes even morbid and depressed and these states of being have just as much relevance on our health as anything physically self inflicted.

But bad news is all around us. Just read any newspaper and see what is going on in the world and you’ll see that there is so much bad stuff that in can get overwhelming at times. The problem is that all that anger, frustration and depression gets bottled up inside because it can’t go anywhere else and that leads to a ton of stress.

Stress is the biggest wrecker of health that we know about.

So we all need to limit the amount of stress that we put ourselves under and one way to do that is to limit the amount of information coming our way that creates that stress. And where does it all come from initially? Yep, bad news!

So by stopping reading newspapers and watching the news on TV, the change in our mood can be quite liberating. After all, why do you want to know all that stuff? What can you do about any of it? Apart from going over it all inside your head and making yourself angry about it, all you achieve is frustrating yourself because you can’t do anything about any of it. Not a thing!

Think about it. How are you going to get even close enough to one of the country’s top politicians to tell them what you think? How are you going to make them listen to you? How are you going to make terrorists stop bombing people in cities around the world? How are you going to feed the starving millions in third world countries? How are you going to reach out and free the millions from poverty or educate the children in poor areas in countries that may be war torn or just so poor they can’t or won’t do it for themselves?

The answer to all of those questions is that you can’t.

You can’t change anything and you can’t make your voice heard because no one cares what you think or care about. Only you do. And only you can choose to either carry on arguing and beating yourself up over things you can do nothing about or to simply shut it out of your mind and your life so you can get on with doing the things that you can make a difference with.

Like making sure you can get the best job you are able to so you can support your family. Or getting involved with local politics if that is your interest. Or offering an elderly neighbor an hour of your time to help them with something or just to be friendly, stop and spend some time talking with them and making their day a little happier. These things you can do that make a difference in the world that revolves around you and your family.

So instead of reading all the doom and gloom in newspapers, try reading some uplifting literature, or educating yourself to the next level so you can go for a better job. Instead of wasting your time sitting in front of the TV watching awful news footage of what is happening in another country or another part of your own country, get up and out of the house and get involved in local activities that will benefit your community and start making a difference where you are.

You’ll feel better for it, your community will benefit, your health will improve for the reduction in stress, your mood will improve and the only loser will be your newspaper seller sells one less newspaper each day!
