Green Tea and Health
There are many good reasons to drink green tea, not least of all that it tastes great and makes a relaxing hot beverage that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. There are many health benefits that come with drinking green tea and these are what I want to cover in this post here.
The first good reason to drink green tea on a daily basis is that it helps to cut down on cholesterol levels and reduces the insulin response to eating fatty foods or sweet things that tend to cause problems. That makes it a useful addition to a weight loss diet as it reduces the body’s ability to store fat.
Another good reason to drink this tea is the antioxidant content. Antioxidants fight off free radicals in the body which are responsible for cell damage and aging, so the tea can help to improve your chances of living a longer, more healthy life!
Of course one of the major reasons that interest in the properties of green tea have escalated in recent years is because of its links with losing weight. It seems that green tea for weight loss is a growing tool in the armory of dieters thanks to its ability to combat weight gain on three fronts.
1. It relaxes you, reducing stress.
Stress is a major cause of weight gain because it suppresses the digestive system causing more of the food you eat to be converted to fat for storage. Drinking green tea averts a great deal of that stress allowing your digestive system to do its job more efficiently and cause less fat to be stored.
2. It contains caffeine, which raises the metabolism.
Even though green tea contains less caffeine than comparable volumes of coffee or black tea, it does contain substances that act to boost its caffeine content’s performance in raising your metabolism. A faster metabolism means your body burns more calories!
3. It suppresses the insulin response.
This is a recent discovery, but studies have shown that drinking green tea shortly after consuming foods high in sugar or high GI carbs suppress the body’s natural insulin response to the blood sugar rush cause by eating these foods. That means less of those excess sugars are carried away to be processed as storable fat.
So if you have any green tea in the house, brew yourself a cup and sit down to enjoy a great cup of great tasting good health while you may even lose some weight in the process!
